OK, its time to reactivate this thing... try to write for at least 15 or 20 or 30 minutes a day and jumpstart my brain. I've seen so many good shows over the past couple of weeks, so I'll probably start by writing about them, or at least what I remember about them. I also have to remember to take my camera to some more shows. I'm always reluctant to take pictures, as I am either enjoying the moment or being distracted by some stupid blogger who is taking photos. Will hypocracy win out? Stay tuned.
In the other realm of life, work at the law firm is going well. I'm writing patents and interacting with the USPTO and all that jazz. I'm still not over working at a large firm - for the first time in my life I feel too young and inexperienced for the situation I'm in. Yea, boo-hoo - I'll get over it. The hours are longish (45-55 a week in the office), but its nothing ridiculous for what I'm being paid and the experience I'm getting. Also, I'm never bored. If anything, the work days fly by too fast.
In terms of applying to law school, the LSAT came and went. I did reasonably well on it - good enough to get me into Fordham and possibly BU, not good enough for NYU or Columbia. Another heart tugging thing for my overachieving personality to chew on for the rest of my life. I need to get over it - its not what law school you go to, but what you do with the degree (or I keep telling myself that).
So I volunteered for CMJ last week. It wasn't much work, and I got a free pass to go see all the shows I could handle between working hours.
Here is everything I saw in the last week, with one word descriptions of each (detailed descriptions to possibly follow)
Monday:
The Rapture [sweaty] @ Webster Hall
Tuesday:
Keren Ann [hot]
and Suzanne Vega [polished]
@ Hiro Ballroom
Wednesday:
Absolutely Kosher Records Showcase @ R&R
Chris Garneau [ithaca]
Sue Garner and Rick Brown [boring]
The Affair [promise]
Get Him Eat Him [typical]
[me passing out in a cab from exhaustion and missing +/-]
Thursday:
Home doing law school apps [lame]
Friday:
Frenchkiss Records Showcase @ Pianos
[standing next to Tim fucking Harrington]
Fatal Flying Guillotines [loud]
Rahim [stupid]
The Plastic Constellations [dropkick]
The Big Sleep [grindin']
Saturday:
Sean Hewitt [jamming]
Cody Chestnutt [hippie]
Stephanie McKay [Beyoncewhocanplayguitar]
Saul Williams [grimepoetry]
OK, so I cheated on the last two.
Tomorrow I'm off to the CLL-PHN-LCKN @ MoMa - rumor has it that LSF is playing. Should be sweet.
